Peruvian music and native delicacies will help set the stage for the viewing of hundreds of priceless artifacts and textiles, that have never been seen outside of Peru. The exhibit will also bring visitors face-to-face with one of the most impressive collections of gold to ever tour the world.
On Tuesday, CBS12 News got a taste of the once-in-a-lifetime interactive experience all South Floridians will get this fall when they uncover the secrets of ‘Machu Picchu and the Golden Empire of Peru.’
“For me, never having been to Machu Picchu, I think the element of the virtual realities, to be able to smell the smells, to feel like I’m there, I think will be amazing and something completely new in this format.” Boca Raton Museum of Art Board of Trustees Chair Jody H. Grass told CBS12 News.
The exhibition will transport visitors thousand of years in the past to the cradle of civilization of South American – the Incan City of Machu Picchu.
“You will gain a window into a transformational journey of life, death, and rebirth.”
The society dominated the region for more than 3,000 years and built one of the seven wonders of the world.
“When you understand this process, when you understand the way they thought, their beliefs, you finally give real meaning to such a wonderful place. Believe me, all the people to visit this exhibition, will really have the privilege to see Machu Picchu with completely different eyes.”
“It’s a fantastic component to our art scene, our cultural scene here in the city,” said City Councilman Andy Thomson.
South Florida is home to one of the largest Peruvian communities in the U.S. and this stunning exhibition will also bring people back to the museum and Downtown Boca Raton.
“Tourism is a huge industry for our city and a huge economic driver,” said Mayor Scott Singer. “We are excited to see this in our Downtown and in our beautiful Museum of Art.”
“We are hoping to stimulate the economy, not only in Boca Raton, but in Palm Beach County, and also the entire state of Florida,” Grass said.
The exhibition opens in October at the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
